my favorite color

I graduated on Saturday.

It was one of the best days of my life--not because of graduation per se, but because of the time spent with my family. So many emotions involved, I'm still not able to articulate them. I doubt I'll ever forget much about the day. It didn't hurt that the weather was so perfect, you'd have thought it was ordered from a menu. I'll share photos from the festivities later.

But this post is about two gifts I received from my sister, brother-in-law, and sweet nephew and niece--four of my most favorite people on the planet. The fact that they flew down to Texas from New Hampshire for my graduation was worth more to me than anything that could be wrapped with a bow ...

... but I have a bucket list of jewelry items about which I dream. I blogged about two of them back on Valentine's Day of this year.

Guess what I received from them? Sweet, sweet Tiffany blue. Such treasures to me--for reasons that far eclipse their shiny perfection.

as of 1pm yesterday ...

... I am Dr. Beverly. For realz.

Feeling an enormous sense of something this morning; I'm just not sure what that something is.

Am very much looking forward to my life returning to a sense of normalcy....

to whom it may concern

I am not dead.
I am finishing my dissertation.
(So maybe I am partially dead?)
Not long now.

Until we meet again ....

i miss you, blog

Home.

For a few days, anyway.

I'm tired. And frustrated. And wanting. And missing my family.

It's all worth it, huh? Right now I'm feeling like it's not. And I have a lump in my throat. Wish I could blame it on hormones; but I don't think that's the case.

(talk about a pity party)

Going to make a gin & tonic, draw a hot bath, watch Lost, and close my eyes. I know I'm blessed; but sometimes it's really hard.

saturday snack, grading papers, etc.

As every teacher knows, grading papers sucks ass.

So to help me along as I read 30 essays (vomit), I just whipped up a Saturday afternoon pick-me-up: salmon and cream cheese on pumpernickel and a margarita. I switched up the marge a little, using Licor 43, rather than my usual Grand Marnier. The result is very nice and tasty.

Oh yeah ... on a somewhat funny, completely random sidenote: I blogged earlier this morning about purple and orange. Well I'd ordered some new navy blue running shoes (damn these shin splints) on eBay last week, and they arrived this morning. Guess what? The navy blue is really ... you guessed it ... purple! I actually think they're pretty nifty, though! The universe is crazy, right?

Back to the lime-enhanced grindstone ....
