fall decor: the takeover

This is why I can't have anything nice.

I pull out something that's been packed away for a year, and ... Bang! Pow!

Total and complete feline takeover.
It's like she's thinking, "Yeah, this will work. Now go make me a sammich."

october is texas wine month

Per Vintage Texas:

"No need to cram your winery trips into one or two weekends this month, you’ll have 31 days to explore, savor and relish in the beauty and excellence of the wineries of the Hill Country. With 24 participating wineries there is an endless combination of day trips for you, your family and friends. Texas Wine Month is about showcasing the wines of the 24 wineries in the Texas Hill Country. With your Trail ticket, each participating winery will offer a minimum of 1 and up to 3 complimentary tastes of wine.

The Texas Wine Month ticket acts as a Golden Ticket for trail patrons again this year! Texas Hill Country Wineries has partnered with local restaurants, hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and wine shops to give you more opportunities along the trail. Each business has provided a special discount or complimentary offer to trail ticket holders only. In addition to the Golden Ticket offers, your ticket will act as entry into the Texas Wine Month raffle and make you eligible to receive the Texas Hill Country Wineries recipe collection."

fall flowers

Fall's color palettes are part of what make the approaching time of year so perfect. Brilliant reds, oranges, golds, maroons, and purples are everywhere. I'll certainly be 'harvesting' -- even if only through my local florists -- many of these rustic beauties over the next few months.

harvest hues

A little over a month ago I blogged about the prevalence of orange and purple this summer. Well guess what three colors In Style Magazine is touting as fall's hottest? Teal, papaya, and amethyst (must we use such esoteric terms as "papaya" and "amethyst" to describe orange and purple? So silly).

I'm still somewhat uncertain about these trends. Who originates them, anyway? I didn't get a vote (I'd have gone with a mustard gold, tawny port red, and chocolate brown [notice my food/beverage common thread?]); but here are a few of In Style's suggestions for "working fall's best colors:"

Teal:

Papaya:

Amethyst:
Lauren by Ralph Lauren Polyester faille coat

Wendy Mink Jewelry - Gold vermeil, resin, amethyst and agate necklace

Maybelline New York Expert Wear eye shadow in Night Sky & Nars nail polish in Tokaido Express

Take 'em for what they're worth. I'll probably channel my fashion advice through Robert Frost and take the road" less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." :)

new fall colors for nails

When did nail polish become nail lacquer (see Opi, Orly, YSL, and M.A.C)?

I'm in a nail color rut, still searching for inspiring new hues. I was therefore eager to read about the "hottest nail colors for fall," per September's issue of Real Simple. Their recommendations: soft metallics, subtle neutrals, and strikingly gorgeous grays; specifically:
