mobile eatin'

(two blog entries for me in one day ... this is the beauty of re-claiming my weekends)

Not unlike the rest of the planet, the concept of street vendors/mobile food trucks has caught fire here in B/CS, TX. In particular, Chef Tai Lee/Chef Tai's Mobile Bistro (of Veritas Wine & Bistro) and Chef Peter Madden/Madden's Street Cuisine (of Madden's Casual Gourmet) are leading the way. Today I visited Chaf Tai's Mobile Bistro.

Not much beats pulling off the highway and into a local parking lot, all in an effort to snag some quality grub; but that's exactly what I did today. No lines. No wait-list. No out of control kids.
Just me, my appetite, a gorgeous spring day, and the friendly folks at Chef Tai's truck. The worst part of the deal: making a menu decision (there were multiple delicious options). So I didn't choose ... I ordered three different items and took 'em all home (lunch, dinner, lunch, and dinner for a couple of days :)).

And now, the best part ... the food. Like I said, I ordered three different items (sue me). No, I didn't eat all of them, but I did have a glorious taste. Mmmmmm.

First up: Kobe Burger (the best burger I've ever had. Ever. Not exaggerating).

Next up: Falafel Wrap. I fell in love with falafel when I was in Qatar a few months ago (the people there practically forced it down our throats, everywhere we went). Chef Tai's is probably really good; but I don't like ginger/cinnamon/cardamom/cloves/whatever, and I tasted a hint of something. That's a deal-breaker for me. I was bummed, since it's covered with fresh greens, onions, pepper--all things I love! So I'm hoping when I go back in later (dinner?) I'll find the ginger taste not so obvious (or maybe I'll be able to pick around it?).

Finally, Calamari Tacos. Jackpot. Nothing more needs to be said.

  1. C'mon...you have got to be kidding me??? That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. I would totally be all over that concept!

    The food looks absolutely delicious!

There are so many times I wished I lived in a different part of the country where the climate was better (conservative, too). Texas is looking pretty good right about now!

    Enjoy your chow!
