gridiron goodness + gin (or vodka)

For me the entire martini aura is as enjoyable as the cocktail. The execution of a good martini -- from the sexy glass, to the swanky mood, to the sparkling condensation on the glass -- creates an ambiance few mixed drinks can match. So after an intense couple of weeks, we're going to sip some of the good stuff tonight while soaking up a little college football on the telly. He loves vodka, I like gin. He adds olives, I'll have a twist of lemon peel. The shaker will therefore get a good work-out this evening.

As far as recipes go, I'm a simple, classic gal:
2 oz gin or vodka
1 splash dry vermouth
2 tbsp olive juice [optional]
2 olives [optional]
twist of lemon peel [for me, a must]
1. Place an ice cube and a small amount of water in a cocktail glass. Place in freezer for 2 - 3 minutes.

2. Add vermouth to martini glass, swirl and dump.

3. Fill a shaker with ice and add the gin/vodka. Cover and shake hard 3 - 4 times.

4. Remove cocktail glass from freezer, and empty. Rub lemon twist over glass rim and drop in.

5. Strain contents of the mixer into the cocktail glass. Garnish.

6. Serve with a mysterious smile.

Cheers.
